An MX (Mail Exchanger) Record is a DNS record that specifies which mail server is responsible for receiving and processing email for your domain.
When someone sends an email to addresses such as info@yourdomain.com, the MX record directs the email to the correct mail server for delivery.
Why are MX Records Important?
- Direct incoming emails to the correct mail server.
- Enable email services such as cPanel Email, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365.
- Allow multiple mail servers to be configured for redundancy and reliability.
MX Record Priority
Each MX record has a priority value. Lower numbers indicate higher priority.
Example:

| 20 | mail2.yourdomain.com |
In this example, emails will first be delivered to mail1.yourdomain.com. If it is unavailable, delivery will be attempted to mail2.yourdomain.com.
Important Note
Before pointing your MX records to a third-party email provider, ensure the provider has configured your domain on their mail servers. Incorrect MX records may result in undelivered or bounced emails.
